Ford Foundation Miffs Michigan A.G.

by Peter Morin on April 2, 2006

The descendants of Henry Ford were jettisoned long ago from his Ford Foundation, and now the Michigan Attorney General is investigating “governance, potential conflicts of interest and a comparatively thin record of giving to charitable causes in Detroit and the state.” (Detroit News, Apr. 2)

Organizational papers say the Ford Foundation’s purpose was to “receive and administer funds for scientific, education and charitable purposes, all for the public welfare.”

I would argue that “public welfare” only included the United States of America.

Our “public lands” are owned by the citizens, NOT THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY.

I’d also argue that “the public” receives no benefit or “welfare” from the foundation’s foreign endeavors and in some cases might work against the American public’s scientific, education and charitable purposes.
