ATLA name change official

by Ted Frank on July 14, 2006

The Association of Trial Lawyers of America is going to attempt to hide the fact that its interests are solely those that enrich trial lawyers, and change its name to the Orwellian “American Association for Justice,” with truth and the American way apparently not making the cut, and “jackpots” too obvious. Al Kamen and Lisa Rickard snicker in the Washington Post. (”Just Don’t Call Them the Suers”, Jul. 14).

I think they ought to steal a page from Dodgeball and call themselves the American Association of Justice for America.

Was “La Cosa Nostra” already taken? I hope I didn’t offend any Mafia types out there.

American Society of Suers would have been more appropriate. Notice the acronym.

Trial lawyers are a valuable tool and anyone disciplined enough to become one should be PROUD to call themselves a trial lawyer!!!

A sad day for the profession and for ATLA, a great organization, not without fault or flawed members. Are we receiving a message on the limits of litigation? Please check out my blawg on the name-change issue.

So now, rather than just thinking it to themselves, they officially want everyone to know that they are justice for America. Wow, I’m convinced.
