Chicago’s gun control defiance

How strange to think that the Supreme Court’s writ would stop at the borders of Cook County, Ill. (Steve Chapman, “Chicago defies forgotten 2nd Amendment”, Chicago Tribune, Nov. 27).

  • The corrupt Chicago political machine has always done whatever it wanted, without regard to the voters or the law. I’m not surprised that this is the choice that Daley made. In the end, it is only going to wind up costing the city millions in attorney fees (assuming that the 2nd Amendment is incorporated into the 14th Amendment).

Another though occurs, will Barrack Obama, the self-proclaimed champion of the 2nd Amendment and the Heller decision, do anything to persuade Chicago to see the error of their ways? How about New York City and other cities that have handgun bans?

  • I am torn here. I understand why the Mayor in a large metro area would think the law might need to be applied a bit differently for him and his city but at the same time he is not the one to put forth that ruling. i actually agree with him but disagree with his actions because it goes against the ruling. But once the liberal illuminati take charge we won’t have to worry about this for long. Just be patient daily, Obama will fix it all. But i am not sure we will end up liking that either.

  • The first case to address incorporation of the Second Amendment at the Circuit Court level will be orally argued before the 2d Cir. on Monday December 15, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. The location is in the ceremonial courtroom at 500 Pearl Street. (The 2d Cir. is temporarily using the facilities of the District Court while their building is under renovation.)

The case is Maloney v. Cuomo docket # 07-0581-cv
