Exact-number demands in lawsuits

by Walter Olson on November 7, 2008

Reasons why a shrewd plaintiff might decide to demand $485,000 rather than $500,000 (Ron Miller, Maryland Injury Law, Oct. 22).

“The example Dr. Davis provides is that a precise number like $325,425 is seen as lower that $325,000 even though obviously the former number is a higher amount.”

“I think an initial demand of $485,000 is higher than an initial demand of $500,000″

I was going to ask to whom does 325,425 seem lower than 325,000, but the author provides an answer.

Sure seems like a load foamy, brainsoap to me.
