Pork-handling and religious accommodation, cont’d

Hasanali Khoja, a Muslim chef employed by London’s Metropolitan Police as a catering manager, has filed a discrimination claim after being asked to prepare breakfasts with pork sausages and bacon, saying he had been assured he would not have to handle the meat products. • The perp’s got a slab of bacon and it’s like Kryptonite to me. Don’t nobody move. I’m calling for backup…

  • Hey, it’s his religion. For all I know you’d think it were equally funny to joke about the fact that I don’t eat pork on religious grounds (we can touch it though).

Was he or was he not made that promise? That would seem to matter, as would knowing what the “reasonable accommodation” standard, or its equivalent, is in the UK (I assume there is one).
