Daschle down

by Walter Olson on February 3, 2009

You’d think with all the hot and cold running lawyers the former Senate Majority Leader has spent time with there’d have been at least one good tax-advisory lawyer.

P.S. Or, as Ray Lehmann suggests, this could be a brilliant Obama scheme to balance the federal budget by exposing major tax scofflaws through the nomination process.

Future talking points: Daschle was the victim of a vast right wing conspiracy and theRepublican Attack Machine. It was an honest mistake. Why are right-wing members of the Senate demonizing a career-public servant with these silly allegations? Hopefully this is a catalyst igniting IRS-colonoscopies for all five hundred thirty five members.

I suggest that the Senate adopt a rule to put taxes off the the table if a desingee squares up his taxes prior to his hearings.

We are aware of foul-mouthed politicians working up public pasions. Joe Biden (about taxes) gave us Janet Reno. Newt Gingrish used the technique to give us the disasterous “Contract with America” congress.
