Don’t let your 8 year old play in the yard?

Per child protective services in Arlington, Va., parents should not let their eight-year-olds out to play in the yard unattended “for any period of time”. David Bernstein and many of his commenters dissent.

So based on these criteria I should be present while an 8 year old bathes?

How far from reality should we allow our government to go before we say anything?

It takes village idiots to raise a child. And lots of legislation.

Wow. “Unrealistic” doesn’t even begin to cover it. When I was eight (in the nineties) we were biking all over the neighborhood with a regular gang of kids. I’d hate for my own kids to miss out on stuff like that… besides the absurdity of claiming neglect for doing something I would imagine most people do!
