Great moments in lawyer Twitter marketing

Should we assume this Southern California lawyer is even aware of the Twitter account sending out messages in his name? The “Bio” line seems to have been drawn up by someone trained in the Borat school of copywriting:

Bio Hi I am Attorney Robert A. B[…]. I am running a successful personal injury Lawyer in Los Angeles California. My Law firm offer legal representation for……………

As of this evening, 186 Twitter users have seen fit to follow the account.

  • If you google for “twitter followers” you’ll see a lot of companies trying to sell twitter marketing services that both guarantee you followers and will market for you.

    My hunch is this attorney paid some fly-by-night company for some twitter “marketing services” and he didn’t write the copy.

    There was one company a “friend” of mine urged me to sign up for to get twitter followers (I have no twitter and no facebook). The TOS gives them the right to send ads through your twitter account. The proliferation of services like this will quickly crowd the system with spam.

  • Also, I was being tongue-in-cheek when I noted that 186 users have “seen fit to” follow the account. Some users follow (or mechanically “auto-follow”) everyone who follows them, while others mechanically follow hundreds of accounts with words like “attorney” in their titles. So the number of users who saw the profile and said to themselves “Hey, this looks like someone I should follow!” is probably much, much smaller than 186.

  • If you look at his firm website, you can see that the attorney who is the subject of the Twitter account is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates group you wrote up a couple months ago.

  • My question is always: Should I follow someone I don’t know who has over 70,000 followers just because he requested to be followed?

    The answer I believe is no. He will never see or read my tweets, nor will he care what I have to say. It appears only to be a race to say who can accumulate more followers. The key is whether you have a core group of people who follow you because they know you, and follow you because you provide relevant content to the discussion of your choosing.

  • I completely agree with Gerry on this. I see no point in having all these people on twitter that have thousands and thousands of followers. Sadly, as far as the twitter marketing is concerned, the more followers you have the more you’re worth on Twitter.

  • I found a listing of people to follow (similar political interests) and I now feel I am following too many… I used to be able to take part in more conversations when Twhirl wasn’t adding so many new tweets every time it refreshed. I am going to have to take some time and weed out my list.
