  • Idiots! Idiots! Idiots!

I’m a 45-year-old woman who takes Ritalin, and has for probably 10 years, to help me focus when I write. I make my weekly newspaper column deadline, and I have a book coming out at the end of November. Lucky for me, I have a new shrink who doesn’t treat me like I must be a criminal selling my pills on the playground, like the last one did — trying to make me come in once a month, which kills a whole writing day. Laws like this will prohibit people like me from getting the drugs we need to be as productive as possible.

  • I think society has been relying on these psychosomatic for too long. Instead of using drugs to focus how about learning breathing exercises. You will find that they can calm you down and help you focus more than any drug can. Also, one of the main causes for not being able to focus in adulthood is high blood pressure or low blood pressure. Get that check first before you drug yourself up

  • My almost nine-year-old son is on Adderal to help his ADHD. This is the boy who, at 4 years old, climbed out the window, got on his two-wheeled bike and rode about a mile to WalMart to purchase a Thomas the Tank Engine Toy. He remembered to take $20 out of my wallet too, since he knew he needed money. This was after he was expelled from Preschool, but before we’d gotten him in to counseling and a psychiatrist.

He’s still smart as a whip, but not doing the dangerous things anymore.

We can’t get his meds except by written Rx physically brought into the pharmacy. Amy, I’m glad you don’t have to go in every month anymore. We can call to have the doctor write a new Rx, then either just go pick it up or have it mailed. We see the doctor every 4 months or so, mostly for dosage adjustments if necessary. I would hate it if I had to pay $120 for a 15 minute office visit on top of the med charges every month.
