Ontario: “Human rights complaint heard over man’s chihuahua”

The couple who used to own Granary Natural Foods in Carleton Place, Ont. acknowledge that they had earlier objected to what they said was sniffing of food by the psychiatric-service dog. But they said the reason they threw the dog’s owner out of the store this time was that he was “yelling and swearing, demanding service”. [CBC]

  • I’m suspicious. I suffer from major depression, but the existence of chihuahuas makes it worse, not better.

  • hey, this is off topic, but too funny not to report. a male lawyer suggested to female that they pay back their fees, ahem, in kind. okay what’s new?

He suggested they do so on “the restitution couch.”

Yike if i made that up, i think i would make it into the bad sex in fiction awards.

  • While the chihuahua is a notoriously yippy breed, they generally do not produce the decibel level of the average human rights complainer, so the headline has a “dog bites man” quality.

  • they generally do not produce the decibel level of the average human rights complainer,

Another diff is that dogs really love people.

  • Yes, dogs do love people. And they love humans too for some strange reason.

  • This doesn’t bother me in the least.

If it (at least for a while) distracts the human rights bureacracy in Canada from trampling on free speech, harassing bloggers and generally trying to criminalize hurting someone’s feelings, I’m okay with that.

  • Mike-

I really am amazed at what the citizens of Canada and England are letting their governments get away with.

  • Barney –

You’re absolutely right. That’s why I recommended Ezra Levant’s book, its amazing how the human rights apparatus in Canada was absolutely unprepared to deal with someone who would dare stand up to them.
