Basketball doubleheaders: men first

Title IX From Outer Space dept.: “A sports conference that always scheduled weekday basketball doubleheaders in which women’s teams played the first game — letting the men play in the later time slot — has altered the practice, after an anonymous sex discrimination complaint charged that this made the women’s games appear to be a ‘warm-up’ act for the men’s games.” [Inside Higher Ed via George Leef, NRO “Phi Beta Cons”] More: Coyote.

  • So the feminist movement is single handedly reversing the tradition of ‘ladies first’. I’ll remember that the next time the cruise ship i’m on starts to go down in the middle of the Atlantic.

  • With the women’s games in the prime time slot, now it will “appear” that a majority of the audience are going back to the dorms to study after the men’s game ends.

  • What frank said…. The women’s game will now be only an “afterthought” to the mens game, yielding yet another complaint.

  • My school tried this for a year in the early 1990s due to an internal complaint. The women’s coach demanded that the policy be rescinded halfway through the season.

There is nothing more demoralizing than watching the stands empty out while you’re warming up.

  • Next, we will have Title 9 lawsuits against basketball fans for sex discrimination when they leave after the men’s game is finished.

  • This issue could be solved by setting up two courts that cross each other and play both games simultaneously. Brand new fouls for interfering with the opposing game. Loads of fun.

  • Sounds pretty easy. Just flip a coin to see who goes first. This isn’t rocket science.

  • Or lock the doors so nobody can go in or out between games. If you want to watch, you have to watch both of them.

Sorry, but the Constitution prevents cruel and unusual punishment.
