It seems the concern is “to prevent ‘heavy and wet’ clothing from falling onto people below.” An earlier letter to housing tenants complaining of the clotheslines as an “eyesore” went ignored, so there are suspicions the Croydon council is pursuing its beautification goals by other means. The link works now. More of the “shut up” and be ruled and “we” know what is best for these poor unfortunates.

And here in Ontario, it’s the drying machine that’s becoming the bad guy! Local ordinances that prevent people from hanging out their laundry are being eliminated (luckily), but there is now a big push by our electrical utility to eliminate or reduce the use of dryers.
