It’s not conservation environmentalists are interested in, it’s preservation. Preservation of the world as it is, with no thought given to the fact that things change. Things pass away and get replaced by the new.

Environmentalists want things to stay the same, now and forever, and will do most anything to keep change from happening; regardless of how much it costs.
