One thing I learned in over 70 years of living in the Big Apple is never, never challenge a bureaucrat, and if you do, the more insignificant the minion, the harsher the reprisal will be.
It is akin to the old joke about the two foot tall guy in a pith helmet standing on the next barstool, and listening to him telling about the time he told the witch doctor he was full of s@#t!
