Is it coincidence, symbolism or fate that the first State of the Union speech of his last term is to be given on Mardi Gras, that final spasm of Bacchanalian excess before the season of suffering the consequences of foolishness? I do not object to masks and deceit, except when someone expects me to believe all the lies I’ll hear tonight. So, I’ll not join you, but shall listen to the tales of revellers, instead.
