Our divorce courts are truly messed up. First. most divorce courts tend to be virulently anti-male. For a male to get custody of his kids he basically has to prove the mother is a drug addict, a prostitute or in prison and sometimes even proving one of these is not enough. Second, too many judges abuse the guardian ad litum system; in most cases none is needed but judges appoint them anyway as they tend to be friends of the judge and it is an easy way for them to pick up fees (almost always assessed against the male). Property settlements when set by the courts tend to favor the female and I never have understood why the male is often ordered to pay the female’s attorneys’ fees. As for alimony, it needs to be abolished except for those handful of cases where the marriage has lasted at least 15 years and the party seeking alimony truly cannot support herself due to age or illness.
