Administration launches big push to regulate household appliances

Not clear that anything has been learned from the green-washer fiasco: “Spurred by President Obama’s climate action plan, the Department of Energy is pumping out new standards for refrigerators, dishwashers, air conditioners, ceiling fans, furnaces, boilers, water heaters, lamps and many more appliances…. critics argue the push to regulate household appliances is evidence of a nanny state.” [The Hill]

Oregon-based physicist Gordon Fulks sums it up well: “CO2 is said to be responsible for global warming that is not occurring, for accelerated sea-level rise that is not occurring, for net glacial and sea ice melt that is not occurring . . . and for increasing extreme weather that is not occurring.”

  • Green-washer “fiasco”? What’s your problem with green-colored laundry?

  • Come now, Hugo, Avocado as an appliance color is so passe.

  • I wonder if at some point DOE will mandate that heat engine efficiencies exceed Carnot efficiency. At that point they will have effectively mandated perpetual motion.

“No problem”, they would doubtless reason in the way that only government bureaucrats can reason, “this will spur invention, so someone will develop a realizable Maxwell Demon.”

  • Yes, let’s increase the price of appliances and hurt lower and middle income families because – climate change. Oh, we haven’t seen warming in 15 years you say? Too bad, we don’t believe the science, we believe the models and we say we’re right, so shut up.
