Greetings from Boston, Overlawyered readers. Walter has invited me to guest this week as he attends to business, and suggested that I make a brief introduction. I have practiced law in the Boston area for twenty-five years now, in both private and public sectors, beginning as a fledgling zoning lawyer on Cape Cod in the 1980’s. I served three terms in the legislature during the 1980’s and was also General Counsel to a large independent authority for a few years in the early 1990’s. I am now a “wizzened” zoning lawyer in Boston. My specialty is permitting cell towers, so you know that all of the hats I own are black. I thank Walter for this oportunity and shall do my best to make the most of it. Feel free to visit me at Wave Maker any time.

  • Welcome!

Cell towers? For years and years I’ve been saying telcos should get a signature architect to design them a cell tower so that they might be more likely to be accepted in our nation’s tony neighborhoods.

Why not a Michael Graves cell tower? The moment of the marquee architect may have passed but I think there’s a design opportunity here that’s being missed.

    Enjoy your guest stint!

  • Thank you joe. When the new PCS licenses were fist launched in 1997, I was involved in a project to cover Cape Cod for a regional carrier. In light of the ardent environmentalism of the area regulators, I strongly recommended that the carrier design a tower that resembled a lighthouse. It was determined that the construction was too expensive, but we did settle on something even more clever. The company utilized a “trailered sailboat” (literally) and placed the antennas in the masting.

In West Palm Beach, off of Rte. 95, there is a cell tower that is designed as a replica of the Eiffel Tower.

  • Maybe you can get picture os flying birds on the windmills to be built in the bay?

    Re-open Chapaquidic?

Hey it’s worth a try right?
