“Mexico Threatens Suits Over Guard Patrols”

Now here’s a great way to pour oil on troubled waters: “Mexico said Tuesday that it would file lawsuits in U.S. courts if National Guard troops on the border become directly involved in detaining migrants.” (Marina Montemayor, AP/Niagara Gazette, May 16).

  • If Mexico files lawsuits against the U.S. for actions taken within our own borders, that should open them up to lawsuits from agencies throughout the U.S. suing them for re-imbursement of the treatment and costs of detatiing and returning ILLEGAL aliens. While I know that legally that could not happen, I do feel that is what should be allowed in our courts.

  • I don’t guess it’s occurred to anyone in Mexico that the best way to help their people would be to improve conditions at home. For all of Fox’s blathering about illegal immigration I have yet to here him make any suggestions for the Mexican Government to help the people. He seems to think it’s our government’s responsibility to look after them.

  • I don’t see why we couldn’t move on Scott A.’s suggestion. We need to see what assets Mexico has here in the U.S. that could be seized.

  • Unfortunately, this type of insanity is typical of the Mexican gov’t. Heather Mac Donald of the Manhattan Institute (Walter’s day job) has a great article on City Journal about this.

  • So what would the basis of the lawsuit be? That the National Guard’s activities violate posse comitatus? I can’t imagine any other grounds.

Do you suppose there’s a court that would buy it? Like, maybe one whose name starts with “9”?
