Lovers of old films will, of course, recognize this as the first scene in the Leo McCarey THE AWFUL TRUTH concerning Cary Grant, Irene Dunne and, of course, Asta, on loan out from Metro where he starred in a couple of the THIN MAN movies. It is good to know that justice is not only blind, but occasionally willing to perform a neck roll or 108 in the service of society. Perhaps, someday, the Supreme Court will be called upon to reenact the Ale & Quail Club segment of Preston Sturges’ THE PALM BEACH STORY.

Maybe if there were a law that said all pets involved in custodial disputes will be put down by the state, there’d be a little less of this.
It’d be a step too far, however, to hold that rule to minor children, I suppose…
