  • What a great story! You can make a living being a deadbeat.

It reminds me of a similar incident that just happened to me. I got a brand new phone number for my business, and I started getting a dozen or so calls a day from a collection agency, looking for someone who I presume to be the previous holder of the number. I didn’t want to change the number–I already started using it–and couldn’t get them to stop calling.

When I looked into the “file a complaint” sites from the FTC and my state attorney general, I discovered something shocking: if I were an ACTUAL DEADBEAT I could get government agencies to help me get the calls to stop–with the force of law behind them. But since I wasn’t an actual deadbeat, they couldn’t help me.

Naturally, they didn’t believe me when I told them I just got the number and there’s nobody there by that name.

I got the calls to stop–for a few days–by having my attorney contact them. (“Advanta Bank”) They started up a few days later, and he repeated his attempt and–so far–it’s sticking.

  • Maybe a debt collecting company will try to buy up all the debt of a serial litigant like this and file a lawsuit where the amount in dispute was worth going to court. The existence of tracking sites make this feasible, and all you have to do is show litigious deadbeats that they will be targets to make them quit.

  • In Soviet America, Debt Collectors pay you!

  • This Cunningham guy is part genius and part low-life. He’s basically working a system that was set up by the other side, and is beating them at their game on their turf. I still think a person should own-up though. The Katz guy they referenced – that guy is all together – well, I don’t want him coming after me so I’ll withhold my opinion on him.

  • This is the type of person who, after this well dries up a bit, might go ahead and purposfully cripple himself so he can start his own ADA filing mill.

  • Normally I’d strongly oppose this sort of litigious behavior.

But against a debt collection company? I just can’t seem to care.
