Georgetown law professor Richard Lazarus has been named executive director of the Obama administration’s new commission on the Gulf oil spill. In 2007 Prof. Lazarus was reported to be among participants in the rather grandly named “National Legal Scholars Law Firm“, which “provides its services solely for the benefit of plaintiffs’ lawyers,” though he is not longer named on its scholar list.

i don’t know, the commission sounds like arranging deck chairs on the titanic.
is this commission going to do anything liablity-related. Or is it about clean up and gee, plugging the well?
Of course either way it is troubling. if its about liability, well, you have this bias apparently built in; no one deserves a defense. every suit has merit.
But on top of that, wow, they seem like exactly the kind of wrong people to deliver any real world solutions. sure, people can surprise me, but I think we need more doers and less lawyer.
And i am myself a lawyer, saying that.
