This one is weird: “Because Shafer Tweeted a smiley emoji at us, the DOJ wants identifying information on our accounts since creation. It’s a bit…overbroad.” [Keith Lee/Associates Mind, Ken at Popehat, Mike Masnick/TechDirt]

We can note a similar insanity when a teen gets sexual material sent TO his phone or email by a minor (a classmate) he/she can be guilty of child pornography, even though they did not produce or download it. Or the guy in the UK who found a gun in his back yard and when called the police was found guilty of gun possession. Passive receipt of information/items cannot logically make one guilty of anything. But the law is an ass.
Once again–abusive government tactics, and no real accountability.
