Guest Blogger Emerges

Hello folks, my name is Jim Leitzel and I generally hang out at Vice Squad. But the Overlawyered denizens have been kind enough to share their pixels with me this week, so here I am. I’ll probably talk mostly about vice, but I am an economist, not a lawyer, so I won’t be able to hold up my end of the lawyerly dialogue.

I’ll start with a quiz (though I won’t vouch for the correctness of my suggested answer). Imagine that you are concerned about three U.S. health-related problems: suicide, cancer, and sexually-transmitted diseases. Alas, you are limited to implementing only one policy reform. What should you do? To build suspense (is it working?), I’ll put my suggestion after the break…

Thanks to Mike DeBow…

…for his contributions as a guest blogger over the past week. Aside from Mike’s postings at Southern Appeal, be sure to check out the outstanding links page he maintains at his Cumberland School of Law faculty website, and the conservative/libertarian legal scholarship reading list and pre-law reading list that he co-edits in conjunction with the Federalist Society. Also watch for his work to appear soon on Point of Law, the new Manhattan Institute website I’m editing.

Guest blogger coming tomorrow

It’s guest blogger season again, and our first guest blogger of the summer begins a week of posting tomorrow — be sure to stop by. We’ve lined up another distinguished guest who will be joining us next month, and more volunteers/nominations are welcome: just email.

Guestblogger Leah Lorber returns

Attorney/author Leah Lorber, a product liability and tort reform expert who practices with the law firm of Shook, Hardy and Bacon in Washington, joined us last summer as one of our guest bloggers (see various entries between Jul. 29 and Aug. 6). We’re happy to announce that she’ll be back for another week-long stint, starting tomorrow. I’ll be continuing to post too, but probably at a reduced pace.

Farewell

I just wanted to give my thanks to Mr. Olson for letting me post a few things here about the law, both within and without the usual range of this blog. If you’d like to read more of my posts, you’ll find me at Crescat Sententia.

Thank you

Tonight’s posting winds up my stint as guest blogger. Thanks again to Walter Olson for having me here. Anyone who hasn’t should pick up a copy of his latest book, “The Rule of Lawyers: How the New Litigation Elite Threatens America’s Rule of Law.” And, while you’re at it, read the amazon.com reviews — even a Madison County, Illinois class-action plaintiffs’ lawyer who says his firm is “routinely slagged” on this website admits the book is a “good read.”

Guest blogger – take three

Hi. I’m Leah Lorber, and I’ll be your guest blogger for the next week. I’m a lawyer working on civil justice policy at a Washington, D.C. law firm, where I’m also co-counsel to the American Tort Reform Association. (Obligatory disclaimer: any opinions I post are my own and may or may not be shared by ATRA, although I’d be really surprised if there are any major discrepancies.) I’m also a former newspaper reporter, and I’m looking forward to seeing if writing legal briefs has forever ruined my ability to write sentences of 25 words or less. That said, I’ll begin. Thanks to Walter Olson for having me here.
